The Ashkelon Plant is currently the largest SWRO plant in operation.
It will provide potable drinking water for 1.4million people living in the area south of Tel Aviv.

 

THE CUSTOMER

The Israeli Government's Water Desalination Agency (WDA) Mekorot, the state owned Water Company, will receive the potable water for distribution.

THE NEEDS

Israel has a serious water deficit due to :
  • Drought conditions;
  • Limited availability of natural water resources;
  • Increase in demand for water due to population growth and economic development. 60 % more water required by 2020

OUR SOLUTIONS

  • Veolia Water will run the desalination operation.
  • The seawater desalination plant will use the membrane reverse osmosis process.
  • There will be two independent plants with a common intake system which will have an annual capacity of 320,000 m3/day by 2004.
  • The feedwater is pumped some 700m from the Mediterranean sea to the plant.
  • The feedwater has a typical TDS of 40,679 mg/l. The treated water will have a TDS of 300 mg/l, (150 mg/l of chlorides).
  • There are four stages to the process which includes boron removal.
