Beijing No.9 drinking water plant is the most important one in Beijing with a total capacity of 1 500 000 m3/d.

The plant takes Miyun Reservoir as its water resources, but it can also take underground water and in the future water resource from Yellow River.

The needs

In order to adapt to the diversified situation of raw water and the engineering of South-to-North Water Diversion in Beijing, Beijing waterworks group invested about 42 000 000 RMB to improve the coagulation and settling unit of the 2nd phase's A series in Beijing No.9 waterworks.

The objective of this project is to use an advanced settling technology to improve the half existing settlers of stage 2 and to increase the hydraulic capacity.

After the refurbishment, the existing capacity of stage 2 will be increased from 250 000 m3/d to 331 500 m3/d settled water, an increase of 32% capacity.

ACTIFLO® is the best solution proposed by OTV for this project.

The refurbishment of the settling stage is in one complete existing drinking water plant, all the existing structure up and down steam have to be considered in new technical process. ACTIFLO® could fulfill the requirements all existing real situation, such as the samll foot print, the variation raw water quality from now to future, algae removal, the strict requirement of effluent quality, less change of existing process structure and ability for future extension of the capacity.

The refurbishment project was signed in November 2004 and completed in August 2005, as the predicted result, establishing sound foundation for the safety and high quality of municipal water supply.
